In 2016, the Library of Congress's announcement that they would replace the subject heading "Illegal aliens" launched a firestorm of controversy and legal action. Five years later, that subject heading remains, and some libraries find themselves taking matters into their own hands-- not just for that subject heading, but for others that might be outdated or unwanted.
In this session, we'll talk about how authority records in Sierra are used to update headings, and how you can use local authority headings instead of LCSH to have the subject headings you want and need.
